Maldives (, US: /ˈmɔːldvz/; Dhivehi: ދިވެހިރާއްޖެ, romanized: Dhivehi Raajje, Dhivehi pronunciation: [d̪iʋehi ɾaːd͡ʒd͡ʒe]), officially the Republic of Maldives (Dhivehi: ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ ޖުމްހޫރިއްޔާ, romanized: Dhivehi Raajjeyge Jumhooriyyaa, Dhivehi pronunciation: [d̪iʋehi ɾaːd͡ʒd͡ʒeːge d͡ʒumhuːɾijjaː]), is an archipelagic country located in Southern Asia, situated in the Indian Ocean. It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India, about 750 kilometres (470 miles; 400 nautical miles) from the Asian continent’s mainland. The chain of 26 atolls stretches from Ihavandhippolhu Atoll in the north to Addu Atoll in the south (across the Equator).

Comprising a territory spanning roughly 90,000 square kilometres (35,000 sq mi) including the sea, land area of all the islands comprises 298 square kilometres (115 sq mi), Maldives is one of the world’s most geographically dispersed sovereign states and the smallest Asian country as well as one of the smallest Muslim-majority countries by land area and, with around 557,751 inhabitants, the 2nd least populous country in Asia. Malé is the capital and the most populated city, traditionally called the “King’s Island” where the ancient royal dynasties ruled for its central location.

The Maldivian Archipelago is located on the Chagos–Laccadive Ridge, a vast submarine mountain range in the Indian Ocean; this also forms a terrestrial ecoregion, together with the Chagos Archipelago and Lakshadweep. With an average ground-level elevation of 1.5 metres (4 ft 11 in) above sea level, and a highest natural point of only 2.4 meters, it is the world’s lowest-lying country. (Note that some sources state the highest point, Mount Villingili, as 5.1 meters)

In the 12th century Islam reached the Maldivian Archipelago, which was consolidated as a sultanate, developing strong commercial and cultural ties with Asia and Africa. From the mid-16th century, the region came under the increasing influence of European colonial powers, with Maldives becoming a British protectorate in 1887. Independence from the United Kingdom came in 1965, and a presidential republic was established in 1968 with an elected People’s Majlis. The ensuing decades have seen political instability, efforts at democratic reform, and environmental challenges posed by climate change.

Maldives became a founding member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). It is also a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. The World Bank classifies the Maldives as having an upper-middle income economy. Fishing has historically been the dominant economic activity, and remains the largest sector by far, followed by the rapidly growing tourism industry. The Maldives rates “high” on the Human Development Index, with per capita income significantly higher than other SAARC nations.

Maldives was a member of the Commonwealth of Nations from July 1982 until withdrawing from the organisation in October 2016 in protest of allegations by other nations of its human rights abuses and failing democracy. Maldives rejoined the Commonwealth on 1 February 2020 after showing evidence of functioning democratic processes and popular support.

Do I need anxiety treatment in Maldives

While anxiety treatment in Maldives is one of the most researched phrases in the Country, occasional anxiety, while uncomfortable, is a natural and useful part of life – it is your mind’s way of alerting you to potential risks to assess a situation and stay safe. When the “alert switch” stays on most of the time, and when it frequently escalates to a fight, flight or freeze response, anxiety becomes problematic.

Anxiety disorders can be paralyzing to those who experience them, which is why a significant number of local people seek out anxiety treatment in Maldives.

What are anxiety disorders?

Anxiety disorders are disproportionately high in Maldives compared to the rest of the country. Excessive anxiety may make a person avoid school or work in Maldives, as well as family, friends, and other social situations. Anxiety disorder sufferers avoid people and situations as they may trigger symptoms. In some cases, people and situations may cause the symptoms to worsen.1https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6206399/

While there are people and situations that cause anxiety disorders, there are other reasons you may develop an issue. Anxiety can be caused by an underlying health issue. The constant thinking and worrying about an ailment can lead you to anxiety as you over-analyze every aspect of your health.

REMEDY Wellbeing, awarded Worlds Best Anxiety Treatment Clinic status, has achieved phenomenal success treating individuals suffering from anxiety disorders, including treatment-resistant anxiety. For those clients that cannot commit to residential anxiety treatment in our flagship clinic, The REMEDY runs intensive local outpatient anxiety treatment in Maldives at our dedicated IOP clinic.

Anxiety Disorder Treatment in Maldives

There are several anxiety disorder treatments in Maldives, but residential treatment at the famous REMEDY wellbeing is ideal for treating the issues. Our private, multi-award-winning clinic allows you to live, learn, and understand your anxiety disorder.

Residential anxiety treatment at The REMEDY is uniquely tailored to each individual and their own issues. Treatment may use psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy sessions. Psychotherapy is a form of counseling. It allows you to learn how your emotions influence your behavior. Our mental health specialists will listen to you during sessions. They will talk to you about feelings and thoughts. After listening to you, the mental health specialist will suggest ways to manage and understand the anxiety disorder.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a common type of psychotherapy. It teaches clients how to turn negative or panic-creating thoughts into positive thoughts. Clients are taught ways to approach and manage their fear without anxiety. The REMEDY provides family cognitive behavioral therapy sessions, should these be required on a treatment plan.

Ways to self help anxiety disorder in Maldives
